The Oceana Search, Patrol, Rescue and Emergency Yeomen (OSPREY) is Oceana's primary search and rescue organization, founded in 2015. The concept was first introduced to Parliament in 2012 by then-Prime Minister J. Helle, but fell due to procedural errors in Parliament. The updated bill was reintroduced to Parliament on February 4, 2015 by President M. Mackay.

Name Edit

The mission directive of OSPREY is defined in its name, the Oceana Search, Patrol, Rescue and Emergency Yeomen. The term "Yeomen" in the name refers to the defunct Royal Oceanan Yeomen, a civilian volunteer organization founded in 1537 to rescue Oceanan fishermen in distress. Taken under the auspices of the Crown in 1798, the group was disbanded by King Tiervan in 1978.
